Qigong Practice and Teaching
By Lauri Amidon
September 2009
Over the course of the past year and a half, I have
learned more about internal and external communication through my practice and
teaching experiences. Little by little I am experiencing the beauty and capacity of the body to communicate.
I am continually amazed at the profound
ability each of us has within ourselves to perceive, harmonize and interact
with various information we receive, both from our immediate environment and from our
not-so-immediate environment.
I believe our bodies are designed to help each other. We do this consciously and
unconsciously. We communicate on so many
different levels that speech is just one level and often times the least
effective. As we become healthier, our
bodies become more open to internal and external communication. Difficulty comes in understanding the body’s
messages. With the guidance from Dr.
Sun, a better understanding of the body meridians, meditation, a greater
awareness of my body’s signals, and a better understanding of the five elements
and complementary solutions, I am learning to recognize and respond to the
messages from my internal communication and the external communication from
students, friends, family, and the environment.
Some days this is more difficult than others. Sometimes I do not know how to interpret
quickly enough. This is very
frustrating. I have learned to be more
patient and to ask questions so I am better able to offer guidance. When I am
not sure of the best response, I choose to focus on the heart-center because I
know that will always be helpful.
The one goal I have in my life is to help people. I do not believe this is easy. I have learned that in order to help others
sacrifice is involved. Because we have
the tools to assist others and to then release the unhealthy energy, we are
able to stay healthy to continue our work. We make a choice.
I am very grateful for the opportunity to be healthy and
happy. I wish all people to have this
opportunity. Dr. Sun became ill when he
helped me become healthy; he sacrificed to help me; he has sacrificed for many
people and many people have become healthier and happier. As a teacher, I wish my students to find
their way to health. If I can aid in the
process then I am thankful and grateful to give to others what was given to me—a
better life.
I wish to become wiser, stronger and more learned to better
serve my students. My personal practice
is essential in order for me to help others properly. It is a challenge to allocate the proper time
to my practice, but I find it necessary. A committed desire to help others and a committed personal qigong
practice are the two requirements to teach. Otherwise, teaching is much too difficult.
As I learn, I feel a greater compassion for others. The trials and travails of life can be so overwhelming.
My heart has changed through our practice. In the Wu Wei workshop last year, the morning meditation changed my life
completely because I saw all people with the Divine in them. The messages we receive through the body
signals givem us a greater understanding of the suffering or difficulties
others have. Our gift as instructors is
to offer possible Qigong solutions that will help our students overcome some
of life’s difficulties. Any discomfort that I feel after class does not
compare to my feeling of gratitude and purpose.
I will continue to study, learn, practice, and grow for the
rest of this life in the hope of providing greater service to others. I wish
to spread, continue and honor the YI
Ren® Qigong practice for all people everywhere as a self-care technique which
enables its practitioners to become healthy and happy, and to live their lives
in harmony and with purpose.
